Perhaps the most appropriate film at the recently ended San Diego Comic-Con, Knights of Badassdom, despite its much smaller scale, made its presence felt at the event.Directed by Joe Lynch, whose directorial debut was 2007's Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Knights of Badassdom touched on a facet of the geek culture that has been regularly neglacted: The world of live-action role-playing (LARP). Focusing on the tale of four fellow LARPers (portrayed by Peter Dinklage, Summer Glau, Steve Zahn, and Ryan Kwanten), the plot of the film goes all ""balls to the wall" when the protagonists found themselves accidentally summoned a demon from the underworld. Promised to be an action-packed, funny mix of survival horror and action adventure films, Knights of Badassdom has indeed appealed greatly to both fans of LARP and the lurkers at Comic-Con.
Here's the trailer of the film.
The official synopsis of the film:
Live Action Role Players must become the heroes they've been pretending to be when they accidentally summon a demonic force for real. Starring Steve Zahn, Ryan Kwanten, Summer Glau, Peter Dinklage, Danny Pudi, Margarita Levieva and Jimmi Simpson.
And the more interesting (and revealing) version of the synopsis:
In this comedic fantasy adventure, Joe (Ryan Kwanten) is a heavy metal rocker who's just gone through a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Beth (Margarita Levieva). His concerned roommates (Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage) kidnap him to their LARP (Live Action Role Playing) gathering, where he enters a realm of fantasy escapism in which pretend knights, elves, and barbarians clash with foam weaponry on a mock battlefield. When Joe's "sorcerer" roommate (Zahn) inadvertently summons a deadly succubus that takes Beth's seductive form, bloody reality crashes down upon their fantasy world. Once LARPers start to turn up dead, the make-believe wizards and warriors must join forces with other adventurers (Summer Glau, Danny Pudi) to become the real life heroes they have been pretending to be and conquer the unleashed evil.
