Use Coconut to Lose Weight

Coconut have its magical ways to help you lose weight and to protect you against insulin resistance.

A diet rich in coconut oil will not only help you lose the unwanted fat, it will also increase the ability of your cells to respond to insulin by reducing the insulin resistance.

A scientific study have revealed that the medium chain fatty acids which are found in coconut oil can help people to lose body fat. So it is beneficial to incorporate coconut oil in your diet.

According to various studies, obesity and insulin resistance have been indicated as the major reason that lead to the development of Type 2 Diabetes.

If your body gets insulin resistance, it means that your body cells are unable to respond to insulin.

Two researchers Nigel Turner and Jiming Ye of Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sydney, performed a research about the effects of coconut oil on body cells.

They compared fat metabolism and insulin resistance in mice fed coconut oil and lard based diets.

Nigel Turner, who is the leader of the research study, found the results quite interesting.

He said, "The medium chain fatty acids like those found in coconut oil are interesting to us because they behave very differently to the fats normally found in our diets.”

"Unlike the long chain fatty acids contained in animal fats, medium chain fatty acids are small enough to enter mitochondria - the cells' energy burning powerhouses - directly where they can then be converted to energy."

"Unfortunately the downside to eating medium chain fatty acids is that they can lead to fat build up in the liver, an important fact to be taken into consideration by anyone considering using them as a weight loss therapy."

Obesity is caused by the excessive fat storage.

Fat storage is that quantity of fat which is not used by your body to produce energy and is stored in your body cells as extra fat.

The quantity of fat storage can be determined by the balance between the quantity of fat which is taken in by cells and the quantity of fat which is burnt by your cells to produce energy.

Often people eat food with high fat content.

As a result, their bodies try to compensate this excessive fat by increasing their capacity to oxidize and burn fat.

According to the research leader Turner, Obese people usually take 40-50 percent of their calories as fat.

He informed that the study subjects that is the mice were also fed 45 percent of their calories as fat.

The findings of the research study revealed that coconut oil helps in increasing the capacity to burn fat and hence it reduces the excessive fat quantity to be stored in cells.

Thus, coconut oil can help in reducing excessive fat and hence in reducing obesity and help in weight loss.
On the other hand, coconut oil also helps in reducing the insulin resistance.

More detailed results of this research study have been published in Diabetes.
